Any of you who have experience or who are interested in the new high density turf grasses species (Champion, Penn A/G Range, Paspalum etc.etc.) will be familiar with the numerous agronomic problems that are associated with these species. The very high shoot densities of these grasses can quickly result in "puffiness" and lead to accelerated organic accumulation. Regular verti-cutting is generally cited as a means to reduce the susceptibility of organic buildup.
However, whilst it is difficult to prescribe the intervals with which verti-cutting should be undertaken, it is now possible to prescribe a tool that has been specifically designed for the single purpose of reducing the creation of puffy conditions. The ATT Ultra GroomerTM has now advanced the conventional verti-cutter that was first used in the 1960’s and addressed its ineffectiveness.
The Ultra GroomerTM is terrific at minimizing “phase management” where remedial rectification of organic accumulation is required followed by periods of cosseting to encourage sward repair.
